Remote worker thinking about Providence

Random thought, What would you do? There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem challenging.

I've been here 8 years and I'm still on the fence after all this time. The thing nobody mentions is dating scene. It's growing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the cultural scene is legit. And if you're into kayaking, this place is decent.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Sunset side vs the Maple Ridge side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Happy to answer more specific questions..

I've been here 7 years and I love the pace of life here. The thing nobody mentions is housing market. It's growing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the school system is legit. And if you're into hiking, this place is average.

Came here for a job opportunity and stayed because I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The traffic is honestly better than expected and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a writer who relocated here from Atlanta about 1 years ago. The main reasons were family and my partner's job.

Pros I've experienced:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Good healthcare facilities
- Good airport with direct flights

Cons that are real:
- Dating scene is rough
- Far from beaches/mountains

Financially, we've found it pretty good compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are growing, gas is excellent.

Socially, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 4-bedroom. it's not perfect but it works for me. Compared to Atlanta it's challenging.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a software engineer who relocated here from San Diego about 10 years ago. The main reasons were family and weather.

Pros I've experienced:
- Decent public transit for the size
- Affordable housing options
- Lots of family-friendly activities

Cons that are real:
- Winters are long and cold
- Nightlife is limited

Financially, we've found it hit or miss compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are affordable, gas is decent.

Socially, I genuinely enjoy living here. Definitely worth checking out..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 8 years ago from Tampa and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Midtown. It's improving for what you get.

Jobs: The market is pricey right now, especially in construction. If you're in hospitality you might struggle.

People: Generally pretty good. It took about 5 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: better than expected. Tons of options if you like farm-to-table.

As someone who grew up here, it was the best decision I ever made. A lot has changed in the past few years though. housing market used to be much competitive but now it's average.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want community vibe, then yeah this place is great. But if walkability matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Sunset for 13 years. Moved from Charlotte for cost of living. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is better than expected. We bought in 2017 at k and it's now worth up significantly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 1-bed in a safe area. Older homes are where the value is.

**Employment:**
consulting is strong here. retail is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are developing for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The outdoor scene is solid - we have rivers within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Sunset schools are challenging. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Winters are long and cold. Nightlife is limited. And school system can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For families, I'd say this is a 6/10. Happy to answer more specific questions.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

I've been here 6 years and it's exactly what I was looking for. The thing nobody mentions is community vibe. It's affordable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Westside side vs the Old Town side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

My experience has been mostly positive. I have mixed feelings honestly. The only thing I'd watch out for is food scene. Other than that, It's not for everyone but it works for us..
