Hey folks, The unemployment rate is 3.4%, which is pretty low. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 10 years ago from Salt Lake City and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in The Heights. It's excellent for what you get.
Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in tech. If you're in legal you might struggle.
People: Generally better than expected. It took about 17 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: improving. Tons of options if you like Asian.
Good luck with whatever you decide..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a software engineer, 31, moved here 1 years ago from Houston. I've lived in Uptown and Westside, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Decent public transit for the size
2. Active local events and festivals
3. Diverse dining options
4. The people are generally decent - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Nightlife is limited
2. Homeless population growing downtown
3. The nightlife situation is wild and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Uptown: Great for families. pretty good vibes, walkable.
- Westside: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Houston, everything felt challenging. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are competitive. Gas is growing. You can live comfortably on $60K-$70K here.
**Final verdict:**
Give it a chance - it might surprise you.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 4 years ago from Dallas and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Meadowbrook. It's pretty good for what you get.
Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in engineering. If you're in tech you might struggle.
People: Generally excellent. It took about 17 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: improving. Tons of options if you like Thai.
Hope this helps!.

I'm a chef and I've found it's not perfect but it works for me. The community is average and there's always something going on.

Hot take but it's not perfect but it works for me. I know a lot of people disagree but after 7 years here, that's my honest assessment.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it's exactly what I was looking for. Internet is solid in most areas.
