Hello, Been living here since 2010. Poverty rate is 4.7%, which is pretty low. Homes are going for about $507,000 on average. Rent is about $1,750/month for a decent place. The weather takes some getting used to. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. What would you do? People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The weather takes some getting used to. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable.

Public transit is excellent here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I love the pace of life here.

I've lived in Oak Park for about 7 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's not perfect but it works for me. When I first moved here from San Francisco, I was surprised by dating scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Good healthcare facilities
- Strong job market in several industries
- The cost of living scene is underrated
The downsides:
- Can feel isolated
- Limited entertainment options
Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for singles. Hope this helps!.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it's not perfect but it works for me. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem average.
I've been here 13 years and I genuinely enjoy living here. The thing nobody mentions is pet-friendliness. It's affordable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the healthcare is legit. And if you're into skiing, this place is surprisingly good.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The North side vs the Maple Ridge side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Definitely worth checking out..

I've been here 13 years and it was the best decision I ever made. The thing nobody mentions is community vibe. It's reasonable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the nightlife is legit. And if you're into rock climbing, this place is tough.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value healthcare, you'll love it. The food scene is genuinely underrated and I've found I have mixed feelings honestly. My neighborhood (Eastside) is wild and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from New York, be prepared for the culture shock. public transit is completely different here. And Property taxes are high.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Hot take but I genuinely enjoy living here. I know a lot of people disagree but after 3 years here, that's my honest assessment.
