Most overrated things about Racine

Hey, Rent is about $983/month for a decent place. Median household income is $55,705, which feels about average for the area. It's a a smaller city city with about 77,155 people. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level.

Pros:
- Friendly people
- Nice parks and trails
- Good schools
- Close to nature
- Easy commute

Cons:
- Hot summers
- Cold winters
- Few job opportunities in some fields
- Homelessness issues downtown

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a lawyer who relocated here from New York about 10 years ago. The main reasons were quality of life and my partner's job.

Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Four distinct seasons
- Good airport with direct flights

Cons that are real:
- Road conditions need improvement
- Far from beaches/mountains

Financially, we've found it hit or miss compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are developing, gas is solid.

Socially, it's been a really good experience overall. No regrets on my end..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 11 years ago from New York and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Highland. It's pretty good for what you get.

Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in real estate. If you're in real estate you might struggle.

People: Generally challenging. It took about 18 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: pretty good. Tons of options if you like Asian.

Would recommend to anyone considering it..
