Why I chose Rainelle over bigger cities

Been meaning to ask this. With a population of 1,334, Rainelle is a small town.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are solid, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

I work in tech here and it was the best decision I ever made. The job market for my field is decent. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value traffic, you'll love it. The safety is genuinely hit or miss and I've found I'm still on the fence after all this time. My neighborhood (Midtown) is competitive and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Salt Lake City, be prepared for the culture shock. walkability is completely different here. And Winters are long and cold.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Public transit is average here. You'll probably need a car for most things. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 6 years ago from Miami and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Eastside. It's challenging for what you get.

Jobs: The market is affordable right now, especially in healthcare. If you're in manufacturing you might struggle.

People: Generally surprisingly good. It took about 8 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: underrated. Tons of options if you like BBQ.

No regrets on my end..

The food scene here is hit or miss. Tons of great Mediterranean places. it exceeded my expectations.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem hit or miss.

I've been here 4 years and I'm still on the fence after all this time. The thing nobody mentions is job market. It's reasonable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the safety is legit. And if you're into skiing, this place is average.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Uptown side vs the Maple Ridge side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..

I've been here 2 years and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The thing nobody mentions is healthcare. It's reasonable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the cultural scene is legit. And if you're into biking, this place is surprisingly good.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Cedar Grove side vs the South side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

No regrets on my end..

We moved here with our family and it's exactly what I was looking for. Schools in Fairview area are average. Kids love it here.
