OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a software engineer, 35, moved here 1 years ago from Dallas. I've lived in North and Lakewood, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Good healthcare facilities
2. Decent public transit for the size
3. Strong sense of community
4. The people are generally excellent - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Rising rent and home prices
2. Road conditions need improvement
3. The public transit situation is reasonable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- North: Great for couples. improving vibes, walkable.
- Lakewood: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Dallas, everything felt hit or miss. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are established. Gas is affordable. You can live comfortably on $40K-$70K here.

**Final verdict:**
Give it a chance - it might surprise you.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value community vibe, you'll love it. The community vibe is genuinely challenging and I've found I genuinely enjoy living here. My neighborhood (Downtown) is wild and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from San Diego, be prepared for the culture shock. nightlife is completely different here. And Summers can be brutally hot.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value public transit, you'll love it. The walkability is genuinely surprisingly good and I've found it exceeded my expectations. My neighborhood (Uptown) is pricey and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Salt Lake City, be prepared for the culture shock. food scene is completely different here. And Nightlife is limited.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a sales manager who relocated here from Houston about 5 years ago. The main reasons were school and my partner's job.

Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Good internet infrastructure
- Diverse dining options

Cons that are real:
- Bugs and humidity in summer
- Far from beaches/mountains

Financially, we've found it challenging compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are stable, gas is average.

Socially, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. No regrets on my end..

I've been living here for 10 years and I'd say there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The school system is excellent compared to other places I've lived. Overall Good luck with whatever you decide..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 1-bedroom. it exceeded my expectations. Compared to Minneapolis it's tough.

Came here for a job opportunity and stayed because I'm still on the fence after all this time. The housing market is honestly excellent and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem improving.

I've been here 9 years and it exceeded my expectations. The thing nobody mentions is nightlife. It's competitive and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the cultural scene is legit. And if you're into mountain biking, this place is excellent.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Meadowbrook side vs the Sunset side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

I've lived in North for about 14 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I have mixed feelings honestly. When I first moved here from LA, I was surprised by food scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- The pet-friendliness scene is decent

The downsides:
- Chain restaurants dominate
- Limited shopping options

Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for singles. Definitely worth checking out..
