Should I move to Raleigh or Raleigh?

Alright here goes,

Transplant from Pittsburgh. Been here 11 months now. The community in ITB is really tight-knit.

The weather averaging 62F year-round is {weather_feel}. Unemployment at 3.2% is {unemp_feel}.

I don't understand why more people don't talk about ITB. Grocery prices are creeping up but still manageable.

Thoughts?

I'll give you a thorough answer since I've been through this exact situation.

I moved to North Hills from Minneapolis about 2 years ago. Initially it felt a bit lonely. But after settling in, Nightlife is decent if you know where to go..

A few things I'd recommend:
- Check out North Hills and Cary for housing
- Download the local transit app even if you drive
- Visit during different seasons if you can

The biggest adjustment was walkability. Grocery prices are creeping up but still manageable.. Overall I'd give Raleigh a 8/10 for couples.

Parent of two in Holly Springs. Schools are excellent here. The parks system here is underrated.. Would recommend visiting before deciding.

Gonna share a detailed perspective since most replies are pretty surface-level.

I'm a empty nester in Apex. Been here since 2016. The airport connections are {adj} which matters if you travel..

Neighborhood-wise, Apex has really changed in the past few years. Wake Forest is the up-and-coming spot right now. Fuquay-Varina is where I'd look if budget is a concern.

Job market for construction: great. For logistics: pricey.

I've never felt unsafe walking around {hood} at night.

DM me if you want more details.

Worked in hospitality here for 1 years. Cost of living is {col_feel} compared to where I came from.. The market is decent right now if you're in that field.

As someone who lives in ITB, Downtown has improved dramatically since I first moved here.. That said, your experience might vary by neighborhood.

I'd highly recommend checking out Five Points. The parks system here is underrated.. Plus the food options around there are solid.

Renter's perspective: I think it's fair for the area. I'm in Wake Forest and it's solid. Definitely shop around though.

My experience has been different actually. I found that Honestly the biggest downside is {downside}.. Maybe it depends on which part of Raleigh you're in.

Let me give you the perspective nobody asked for but everyone needs.

I've lived in Wake Forest, Downtown Raleigh, and currently in Cameron Village. Each one feels like a different city honestly.

Rent comparison:
- Wake Forest: /mo for a 2-bed
- Downtown Raleigh: about /mo
- Cameron Village: /mo but pretty good

The airport connections are {adj} which matters if you travel.. The key is finding your neighborhood. Once you do, Raleigh really clicks. Happy to answer questions.
