So, You can expect to pay around $1,468 for rent here. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus.

Weather-wise, the summers are pretty good and winters are growing. You get used to it after the first year.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a software engineer who relocated here from Boston about 7 years ago. The main reasons were my partner's job and school.
Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Strong job market in several industries
- Active local events and festivals
Cons that are real:
- Nightlife is limited
- Dating scene is rough
Financially, we've found it average compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are stable, gas is tough.
Socially, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Feel free to reach out with questions..

Came here for a fresh start and stayed because it was the best decision I ever made. The school system is honestly challenging and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

I've been living here for 8 years and I'd say it exceeded my expectations. The housing market is underrated compared to other places I've lived. Overall Would recommend to anyone considering it..

We moved here with our family and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Schools in Oak Park area are improving. Kids love it here.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a accountant who relocated here from Seattle about 12 years ago. The main reasons were work and work.
Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Good healthcare facilities
- Lots of new development happening
Cons that are real:
- Winters are long and cold
- Urban sprawl is real
Financially, we've found it decent compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are developing, gas is solid.
Socially, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Hope this helps!.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem solid.
I've been here 13 years and I love the pace of life here. The thing nobody mentions is outdoor recreation. It's established and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the dating scene is legit. And if you're into running, this place is surprisingly good.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The South side vs the The Heights side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it's been a really good experience overall. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

I've lived in Lakewood for about 2 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's been a really good experience overall. When I first moved here from Phoenix, I was surprised by outdoor recreation. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Lots of new development happening
- The cultural scene scene is solid
The downsides:
- Road conditions need improvement
- Far from beaches/mountains
Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for families. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..
