First post here. I'm a college student here and Am I overthinking this? Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem surprisingly good.
I've been here 14 years and I'm still on the fence after all this time. The thing nobody mentions is job market. It's reasonable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the dating scene is legit. And if you're into skiing, this place is surprisingly good.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Sunset side vs the Meadowbrook side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Definitely worth checking out..

I've been living here for 9 years and I'd say the quality of life is solid. The cultural scene is average compared to other places I've lived. Overall Happy to answer more specific questions..

Hot take but it's not perfect but it works for me. I know a lot of people disagree but after 6 years here, that's my honest assessment.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a project manager, 24, moved here 15 years ago from Charlotte. I've lived in South and Cedar Grove, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Growing food and restaurant scene
2. Strong job market in several industries
3. Diverse dining options
4. The people are generally surprisingly good - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Limited public transit options
2. Not very walkable outside downtown
3. The dating scene situation is developing and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- South: Great for young professionals. surprisingly good vibes, walkable.
- Cedar Grove: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Charlotte, everything felt pretty good. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are pricey. Gas is developing. You can live comfortably on $40K-$120K here.
**Final verdict:**
It's not for everyone but it works for us.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

I've lived in The Heights for about 2 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's been a really good experience overall. When I first moved here from Pittsburgh, I was surprised by healthcare. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Strong job market in several industries
- The cultural scene scene is decent
The downsides:
- Nightlife is limited
- Dating scene is rough
Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for couples. Happy to answer more specific questions..
