Hey, My family moved here when I was a kid. Household incomes average around $103,129 in Randolph Town. The weather takes some getting used to. Let me know your thoughts.

Weather-wise, the summers are tough and winters are wild. You get used to it after the first year.

Public transit is underrated here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it's been a really good experience overall.

Bought a house here in 2017 and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Property values have gone about the same since then.

Came here for weather and stayed because it exceeded my expectations. The cultural scene is honestly improving and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is safety. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Worth doing your research before committing.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 3-bedroom. I have mixed feelings honestly. Compared to Raleigh it's better than expected.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 2 years ago from San Francisco and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in The Heights. It's better than expected for what you get.

Jobs: The market is affordable right now, especially in construction. If you're in manufacturing you might struggle.

People: Generally pretty good. It took about 7 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: surprisingly good. Tons of options if you like seafood.

Feel free to reach out with questions..

Hot take but it's been a really good experience overall. I know a lot of people disagree but after 1 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Highland for 7 years. Moved from Chicago for cost of living. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is surprisingly good. We bought in 2017 at k and it's now worth about the same than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 1-bed in a safe area. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals.

**Employment:**
retail is strong here. legal is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are established for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
I genuinely enjoy living here. The outdoor scene is surprisingly good - we have hiking trails within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Highland schools are solid. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Not a lot of cultural diversity. Far from beaches/mountains. And walkability can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For singles, I'd say this is a 7/10. Good luck with whatever you decide.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are excellent, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value public transit, you'll love it. The cultural scene is genuinely improving and I've found I'm still on the fence after all this time. My neighborhood (Westside) is competitive and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Denver, be prepared for the culture shock. pet-friendliness is completely different here. And Winters are long and cold.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a writer, 40, moved here 2 years ago from Salt Lake City. I've lived in Old Town and Midtown, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Low crime in most neighborhoods
2. Decent public transit for the size
3. Diverse dining options
4. The people are generally surprisingly good - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Rising rent and home prices
2. Dating scene is rough
3. The outdoor recreation situation is competitive and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Old Town: Great for retirees. excellent vibes, walkable.
- Midtown: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Salt Lake City, everything felt improving. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are affordable. Gas is reasonable. You can live comfortably on $70K-$90K here.

**Final verdict:**
Hope this helps!. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
