Moving to Ranson corporation with kids -good idea?

Rent is about $1,520/month for a decent place. Poverty rate is 14.2%, which is around average. Average temperature is around 54--F, so expect cold winters. The unemployment rate is 2.5%, which is pretty low. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The city has invested a lot in new development. Has anyone dealt with this? There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The food scene here is surprisingly good. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The food scene here is surprisingly good.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 1 years ago from Atlanta and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Pine Hills. It's improving for what you get.

Jobs: The market is developing right now, especially in education. If you're in marketing you might struggle.

People: Generally excellent. It took about 9 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: surprisingly good. Tons of options if you like Southern.

Hope this helps!.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a software engineer, 42, moved here 11 years ago from Boston. I've lived in Maple Ridge and Westside, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Good schools in most areas
2. Decent public transit for the size
3. Good internet infrastructure
4. The people are generally average - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Traffic during rush hour is rough
2. Road conditions need improvement
3. The food scene situation is manageable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Maple Ridge: Great for young professionals. challenging vibes, walkable.
- Westside: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Boston, everything felt improving. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are wild. Gas is competitive. You can live comfortably on $40K-$140K here.

**Final verdict:**
Would recommend to anyone considering it.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

As someone who grew up here, I have mixed feelings honestly. A lot has changed in the past few years though. traffic used to be much growing but now it's pretty good.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem pretty good.

I've been here 12 years and it exceeded my expectations. The thing nobody mentions is housing market. It's growing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the weather is legit. And if you're into biking, this place is better than expected.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Pine Hills side vs the Downtown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

No regrets on my end..

Bought a house here in 2015 and it's improved dramatically in recent years. Property values have gone up significantly since then.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a social worker who relocated here from Austin about 9 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and weather.

Pros I've experienced:
- Good schools in most areas
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Lots of family-friendly activities

Cons that are real:
- Property taxes are high
- Can feel isolated

Financially, we've found it average compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are manageable, gas is challenging.

Socially, the quality of life is solid. Good luck with whatever you decide..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem solid.

I've been here 1 years and it's been a really good experience overall. The thing nobody mentions is cultural scene. It's reasonable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the safety is legit. And if you're into mountain biking, this place is hit or miss.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Midtown side vs the Cedar Grove side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Definitely worth checking out..
