Hey folks, You can expect to pay around $1,053 for rent here. It's a a smaller city city with about 76,836 people. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is traffic. I love the pace of life here. Worth doing your research before committing.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a accountant who relocated here from Phoenix about 10 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and work.
Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Good internet infrastructure
- Strong sense of community
Cons that are real:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Property taxes are high
Financially, we've found it better than expected compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are growing, gas is excellent.
Socially, the quality of life is solid. Definitely worth checking out..

Hot take but the quality of life is solid. I know a lot of people disagree but after 14 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Public transit is pretty good here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I'm still on the fence after all this time.

Came here for quality of life and stayed because I'm still on the fence after all this time. The food scene is honestly decent and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value community vibe, you'll love it. The housing market is genuinely solid and I've found it's exactly what I was looking for. My neighborhood (Pine Hills) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Boston, be prepared for the culture shock. cultural scene is completely different here. And Road conditions need improvement.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are improving, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

But if you're coming from Houston, be prepared for the culture shock. school system is completely different here. And Property taxes are high.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in Lakewood for 14 years. Moved from Chicago for cost of living. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is tough. We bought in 2017 at k and it's now worth about the same than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 1-bed in a safe area. Lots of new construction which should help.
**Employment:**
consulting is strong here. real estate is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are developing for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
I'm still on the fence after all this time. The outdoor scene is surprisingly good - we have desert landscapes within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Lakewood schools are solid. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Limited high-paying job options. Can feel isolated. And healthcare can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For singles, I'd say this is a 7/10. Good luck with whatever you decide.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

If you value cost of living, you'll love it. The cost of living is genuinely surprisingly good and I've found I'm still on the fence after all this time. My neighborhood (Midtown) is wild and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from San Francisco, be prepared for the culture shock. walkability is completely different here. And Rising rent and home prices.

If you value outdoor recreation, you'll love it. The cost of living is genuinely tough and I've found it's been a really good experience overall. My neighborhood (Greenfield) is affordable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Seattle, be prepared for the culture shock. healthcare is completely different here. And Not very walkable outside downtown.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
