The good and bad of living in Raritan

Been meaning to ask this. My family moved here when I was a kid. Average temperature is around 51--F, so expect cold winters. The weather takes some getting used to. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The suburbs are where most families end up. Night life is decent if you know the right spots.

We moved here with our family and it exceeded my expectations. Schools in Downtown area are excellent. Kids love it here.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, I have mixed feelings honestly. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem surprisingly good.

I've been here 7 years and it's exactly what I was looking for. The thing nobody mentions is job market. It's reasonable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the weather is legit. And if you're into rock climbing, this place is hit or miss.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Cedar Grove side vs the Old Town side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Happy to answer more specific questions..

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it's been a really good experience overall. Internet is surprisingly good in most areas.

Weather-wise, the summers are challenging and winters are developing. You get used to it after the first year.

Hot take but it exceeded my expectations. I know a lot of people disagree but after 13 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Public transit is improving here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 1-bedroom. it exceeded my expectations. Compared to Raleigh it's challenging.

Hot take but the quality of life is solid. I know a lot of people disagree but after 8 years here, that's my honest assessment.
