Life in Ravenswood as a young professional

Hey everyone, Household incomes average around $45,392 in Ravenswood. Median household income is $45,392, which feels on the lower side for the area. The median home value here is around $99,600, which is actually reasonable. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The weather takes some getting used to. It's not perfect, but the community is solid.

Pros:
- Affordable cost of living
- Diverse community
- Lots of new development
- Walkable downtown

Cons:
- Limited public transit
- Hot summers
- Limited nightlife
- Boring for young people
- Limited cultural events
Should I be concerned? Looking forward to hearing from you all. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The city has invested a lot in new development. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a writer, 57, moved here 7 years ago from San Francisco. I've lived in Eastside and Cedar Grove, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Nice parks and green spaces
2. Decent public transit for the size
3. Four distinct seasons
4. The people are generally decent - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Traffic during rush hour is rough
2. Summers can be brutally hot
3. The weather situation is growing and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Eastside: Great for couples. hit or miss vibes, walkable.
- Cedar Grove: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from San Francisco, everything felt average. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are competitive. Gas is reasonable. You can live comfortably on $50K-$80K here.

**Final verdict:**
Happy to answer more specific questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
