Biggest downsides of living in Rawlins?

Hey everyone, Average temperature is around 44--F, so bundle up in winter. The unemployment rate is 5.0%, which is about average. With a population of 8,217, Rawlins is a small town. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The food scene here is surprisingly good. What neighborhoods would you suggest? Any help is appreciated. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The city has invested a lot in new development. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The suburbs are where most families end up. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem underrated.

I've been here 13 years and the quality of life is solid. The thing nobody mentions is cultural scene. It's competitive and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the pet-friendliness is legit. And if you're into running, this place is underrated.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Springfield side vs the Midtown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Happy to answer more specific questions..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem pretty good.

I've been here 3 years and I have mixed feelings honestly. The thing nobody mentions is weather. It's wild and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the pet-friendliness is legit. And if you're into biking, this place is surprisingly good.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Lakewood side vs the Eastside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Definitely worth checking out..

Hot take but I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. I know a lot of people disagree but after 13 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value pet-friendliness, you'll love it. The job market is genuinely hit or miss and I've found it's not perfect but it works for me. My neighborhood (Springfield) is reasonable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from LA, be prepared for the culture shock. public transit is completely different here. And Limited shopping options.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I've lived in Downtown for about 5 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. When I first moved here from Chicago, I was surprised by pet-friendliness. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Decent public transit for the size
- The school system scene is solid

The downsides:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Bugs and humidity in summer

Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for singles. No regrets on my end..

I've lived in Eastside for about 15 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's exactly what I was looking for. When I first moved here from Salt Lake City, I was surprised by traffic. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Nice parks and green spaces
- The nightlife scene is tough

The downsides:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Far from beaches/mountains

Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for retirees. Feel free to reach out with questions..
