I'm a teacher here and With a population of 10,243, Raymondville is a small town. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Am I wrong here? Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable.

I've lived in Oak Park for about 2 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's exactly what I was looking for. When I first moved here from Salt Lake City, I was surprised by safety. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Affordable housing options
- The walkability scene is challenging
The downsides:
- Winters are long and cold
- Nightlife is limited
Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for retirees. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a teacher who relocated here from Miami about 3 years ago. The main reasons were school and family.
Pros I've experienced:
- Good internet infrastructure
- Affordable housing options
- Lots of family-friendly activities
Cons that are real:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
Financially, we've found it surprisingly good compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are pricey, gas is improving.
Socially, it exceeded my expectations. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Used to live on the Uptown side, now on the Highland side. Completely different vibe. I have mixed feelings honestly.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, I love the pace of life here. Feel free to reach out with questions..
