I've been looking at the stats and Reading shows a violent crime rate of 865 per 100K which is above average. But stats don't always tell the full story. For people who actually live there — do you feel safe? Are there areas to avoid?
I'm especially interested in hearing from young professionals.

For families, I'd recommend looking at Westside. Schools are rated well and it's quiet.

Rent tip: look for places in October-November. Prices drop and there's more availability.

Check out the Highland Park area. Way more affordable and still close to everything.
