Curious what people think. I'm single, late 50s, and Poverty rate is 15.4%, which is higher than I expected. Rent is about $1,068/month for a decent place. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. What do you all think?

Came here for my partner's job and stayed because it's improved dramatically in recent years. The nightlife is honestly underrated and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 3 years ago from Portland and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Riverside. It's better than expected for what you get.
Jobs: The market is reasonable right now, especially in construction. If you're in legal you might struggle.
People: Generally underrated. It took about 15 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: underrated. Tons of options if you like Mediterranean.
No regrets on my end..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are better than expected, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

My experience has been mostly positive. it's not perfect but it works for me. The only thing I'd watch out for is cost of living. Other than that, No regrets on my end..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value weather, you'll love it. The dating scene is genuinely average and I've found I have mixed feelings honestly. My neighborhood (Riverside) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Minneapolis, be prepared for the culture shock. walkability is completely different here. And Property taxes are high.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

If you value public transit, you'll love it. The dating scene is genuinely better than expected and I've found it's improved dramatically in recent years. My neighborhood (Old Town) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Charlotte, be prepared for the culture shock. dating scene is completely different here. And Limited public transit options.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a accountant who relocated here from Pittsburgh about 13 years ago. The main reasons were cost of living and cost of living.
Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Good healthcare facilities
Cons that are real:
- Winters are long and cold
- Limited entertainment options
Financially, we've found it better than expected compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are pricey, gas is better than expected.
Socially, I'm still on the fence after all this time. Definitely worth checking out..
