Been meaning to ask this. I grew up here but left for a while. You can expect to pay around $2,216 for rent here. It's a a small town city with about 1,263 people. Median household income is $83,929, which feels pretty solid for the area. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The city has invested a lot in new development. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Thoughts? Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The city has invested a lot in new development. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a project manager, 48, moved here 5 years ago from San Francisco. I've lived in The Heights and Old Town, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Good healthcare facilities
2. Good internet infrastructure
3. Strong sense of community
4. The people are generally pretty good - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Rising rent and home prices
2. Homeless population growing downtown
3. The safety situation is competitive and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- The Heights: Great for couples. surprisingly good vibes, walkable.
- Old Town: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from San Francisco, everything felt decent. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are established. Gas is manageable. You can live comfortably on $80K-$80K here.
**Final verdict:**
