What surprised you most about Red Lion?

Hey everyone, I'm single, late 50s, and Crime rate is something to consider -Red Lion sits at 882.8 per 100K. Rent is about $863/month for a decent place. The weather takes some getting used to. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. What would you do? Night life is decent if you know the right spots. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Property taxes are high but you get good services. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that.

I've lived in Downtown for about 10 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's not perfect but it works for me. When I first moved here from Raleigh, I was surprised by nightlife. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Close to major attractions
- The healthcare scene is better than expected

The downsides:
- Property taxes are high
- Far from beaches/mountains

Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for remote workers. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value nightlife, you'll love it. The nightlife is genuinely excellent and I've found it's been a really good experience overall. My neighborhood (Eastside) is affordable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Raleigh, be prepared for the culture shock. pet-friendliness is completely different here. And Summers can be brutally hot.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I work in finance here and I genuinely enjoy living here. The job market for my field is tough. Definitely worth checking out..
