Rent vs buy in Red Oak -what makes sense?

Random thought, I'm a remote worker and Median household income is $52,996, which feels on the lower side for the area. Crime rate is something to consider -Red Oak sits at 624.2 per 100K. Average temperature is around 51--F, so expect cold winters. Household incomes average around $52,996 in Red Oak. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The food scene here is surprisingly good.

Pros:
- Affordable cost of living
- Good job market
- Good schools
- Good healthcare facilities
- Good internet infrastructure

Cons:
- Sprawl everywhere
- Few job opportunities in some fields
- Boring for young people
- Mosquitoes and humidity
- Chain restaurants dominate
Is this normal for Red Oak? There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The weather takes some getting used to. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in North for 2 years. Moved from San Francisco for school. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is better than expected. We bought in 2015 at k and it's now worth up a bit than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 3-bed in a safe area. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals.

**Employment:**
healthcare is strong here. healthcare is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are stable for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
I have mixed feelings honestly. The outdoor scene is underrated - we have national forests within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. North schools are pretty good. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Property taxes are high. Limited entertainment options. And traffic can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For singles, I'd say this is a 9/10. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.
