Hi all, I've been here for 4 years and The median home value here is around $318,200, which seems about average. Rent is about $1,527/month for a decent place. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Is this normal for Red Oak? It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Property taxes are high but you get good services.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value pet-friendliness, you'll love it. The outdoor recreation is genuinely pretty good and I've found there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. My neighborhood (The Heights) is competitive and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Atlanta, be prepared for the culture shock. healthcare is completely different here. And Limited public transit options.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
