Longtime lurker here, Crime rate is something to consider -Redan sits at 3,154.7 per 100K. Homes are going for about $197,600 on average. You can expect to pay around $1,436 for rent here. The city has invested a lot in new development. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a lawyer who relocated here from Portland about 3 years ago. The main reasons were family and family.
Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Close to major attractions
Cons that are real:
- Homeless population growing downtown
- Far from beaches/mountains
Financially, we've found it underrated compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are reasonable, gas is better than expected.
Socially, it's improved dramatically in recent years. Happy to answer more specific questions..

I'm a writer and I've found it's been a really good experience overall. The community is challenging and there's always something going on.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 4-bedroom. I genuinely enjoy living here. Compared to Charlotte it's underrated.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 13 years ago from Raleigh and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in West. It's underrated for what you get.
Jobs: The market is established right now, especially in tech. If you're in engineering you might struggle.
People: Generally decent. It took about 9 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: better than expected. Tons of options if you like sushi.
