Moving from Seattle to Redding next month

Anyone else feel this way? Military spouse here. Rent is about $1,323/month for a decent place. Homes are going for about $363,800 on average. Average temperature is around 63--F, so the weather is moderate. Poverty rate is 8.2%, which is pretty low. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. What would you do? I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 5 years ago from Nashville and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Maple Ridge. It's tough for what you get.

Jobs: The market is growing right now, especially in engineering. If you're in manufacturing you might struggle.

People: Generally hit or miss. It took about 14 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: better than expected. Tons of options if you like Asian.

Feel free to reach out with questions..
