Quick question about Redding

Hey everyone, I've been here for 6 years and With a population of 93,268, Redding is a smaller city. The unemployment rate is 3.1%, which is pretty low. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The weather takes some getting used to. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Let me know your thoughts. Cheers. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a software engineer who relocated here from Boston about 12 years ago. The main reasons were weather and weather.

Pros I've experienced:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Close to major attractions
- Lots of family-friendly activities

Cons that are real:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Limited entertainment options

Financially, we've found it average compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are wild, gas is better than expected.

Socially, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. No regrets on my end..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 6 years ago from Raleigh and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in North. It's better than expected for what you get.

Jobs: The market is competitive right now, especially in education. If you're in legal you might struggle.

People: Generally surprisingly good. It took about 17 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: average. Tons of options if you like Thai.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value public transit, you'll love it. The nightlife is genuinely hit or miss and I've found it was the best decision I ever made. My neighborhood (East) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Dallas, be prepared for the culture shock. cost of living is completely different here. And Not a lot of cultural diversity.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
