Redding is underrated, change my mind

Average temperature is around 63--F, so the weather is moderate. The unemployment rate is 3.1%, which is pretty low. Poverty rate is 8.2%, which is pretty low. Homes are going for about $363,800 on average. Rent is about $1,323/month for a decent place. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that.

Pros:
- Good job market
- Low crime in most areas
- Low taxes
- Active local events

Cons:
- Limited dining options
- Few job opportunities in some fields
- Boring for young people
- Far from major airports
What would you do? Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The suburbs are where most families end up. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 3 years ago from Portland and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Meadowbrook. It's solid for what you get.

Jobs: The market is reasonable right now, especially in manufacturing. If you're in healthcare you might struggle.

People: Generally hit or miss. It took about 12 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: hit or miss. Tons of options if you like Indian.

No regrets on my end..

Public transit is solid here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Fairview for 8 years. Moved from Tampa for weather. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is pretty good. We bought in 2024 at k and it's now worth about the same than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 2-bed in a safe area. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable.

**Employment:**
healthcare is strong here. tech is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are growing for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it's improved dramatically in recent years. The outdoor scene is hit or miss - we have ski resorts within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Fairview schools are challenging. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Limited entertainment options. Bugs and humidity in summer. And pet-friendliness can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For young professionals, I'd say this is a 5/10. Happy to answer more specific questions.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Used to live on the East side, now on the North side. Completely different vibe. it's been a really good experience overall.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are better than expected, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 9 years ago from Atlanta and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in West. It's solid for what you get.

Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in manufacturing. If you're in marketing you might struggle.

People: Generally improving. It took about 17 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: challenging. Tons of options if you like Thai.

No regrets on my end..
