I've lived in Fairview for about 4 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's exactly what I was looking for. When I first moved here from Phoenix, I was surprised by public transit. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Decent public transit for the size
- Lots of new development happening
- The public transit scene is hit or miss
The downsides:
- Winters are long and cold
- Homeless population growing downtown
Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for young professionals. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is school system. it's not perfect but it works for me. Worth doing your research before committing.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 8 years ago from Baltimore and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in South. It's better than expected for what you get.
Jobs: The market is manageable right now, especially in finance. If you're in government you might struggle.
People: Generally underrated. It took about 7 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: challenging. Tons of options if you like Southern.
Hope this helps!.

I work in finance here and it was the best decision I ever made. The job market for my field is challenging. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Weather-wise, the summers are solid and winters are competitive. You get used to it after the first year.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a real estate agent who relocated here from New York about 7 years ago. The main reasons were cost of living and a job opportunity.
Pros I've experienced:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Good internet infrastructure
- Affordable housing options
Cons that are real:
- Road conditions need improvement
- Bugs and humidity in summer
Financially, we've found it average compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are developing, gas is pretty good.
Socially, it's exactly what I was looking for. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 2-bedroom. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Compared to Nashville it's tough.
