Worst things about Redding nobody talks about

Military spouse here. Rent is about $1,323/month for a decent place. The median home value here is around $363,800, which seems about average. Crime rate is something to consider -Redding sits at 667.2 per 100K. Median household income is $69,443, which feels about average for the area. You can expect to pay around $1,323 for rent here. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. I'd say it's better for families than young singles.

Pros:
- Friendly people
- Growing food scene
- Close to nature

Cons:
- Traffic can be terrible
- Few job opportunities in some fields
- Limited cultural events
- Chain restaurants dominate
Am I overthinking this? Thanks for reading. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. I'd say it's better for families than young singles.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value housing market, you'll love it. The school system is genuinely average and I've found I genuinely enjoy living here. My neighborhood (North) is pricey and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Pittsburgh, be prepared for the culture shock. weather is completely different here. And Traffic during rush hour is rough.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem surprisingly good.

I've been here 10 years and it exceeded my expectations. The thing nobody mentions is school system. It's competitive and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the school system is legit. And if you're into camping, this place is tough.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Pine Hills side vs the Meadowbrook side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Happy to answer more specific questions..

Public transit is better than expected here. You'll probably need a car for most things. the quality of life is solid.
