Hi all, The median home value here is around $519,600, which is pretty steep. Worth the trade-offs?

Public transit is tough here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I genuinely enjoy living here.

I work in real estate here and it's improved dramatically in recent years. The job market for my field is surprisingly good. No regrets on my end..

Weather-wise, the summers are hit or miss and winters are pricey. You get used to it after the first year.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 1-bedroom. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Compared to Atlanta it's excellent.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a teacher who relocated here from Salt Lake City about 10 years ago. The main reasons were quality of life and weather.
Pros I've experienced:
- Strong job market in several industries
- Affordable housing options
- Lots of family-friendly activities
Cons that are real:
- Chain restaurants dominate
- Limited entertainment options
Financially, we've found it hit or miss compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are established, gas is average.
Socially, I genuinely enjoy living here. Definitely worth checking out..

I'm a accountant who relocated here from Chicago about 3 years ago. The main reasons were quality of life and family.
Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Good schools in most areas
- Decent public transit for the size
Cons that are real:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Can feel isolated
Financially, we've found it surprisingly good compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are wild, gas is better than expected.
Socially, I'm still on the fence after all this time. Definitely worth checking out..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem tough.
I've been here 10 years and I'm still on the fence after all this time. The thing nobody mentions is walkability. It's affordable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the housing market is legit. And if you're into hiking, this place is surprisingly good.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Meadowbrook side vs the Pine Hills side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Would recommend to anyone considering it..

I'm a project manager and I've found it exceeded my expectations. The community is average and there's always something going on.

My experience has been mostly positive. I love the pace of life here. The only thing I'd watch out for is community vibe. Other than that, Give it a chance - it might surprise you..
