Is Redlands still affordable?

First post here. Household incomes average around $99,158 in Redlands. You can expect to pay around $1,883 for rent here. Rent is about $1,883/month for a decent place. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The city has invested a lot in new development. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years.

Pros:
- Close to nature
- Lots of new development
- Good internet infrastructure

Cons:
- Cold winters
- Few job opportunities in some fields
- Boring for young people

The city has invested a lot in new development. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The weather takes some getting used to. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much.

Public transit is tough here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a teacher, 31, moved here 6 years ago from Chicago. I've lived in Springfield and Westside, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Nice parks and green spaces
2. Decent public transit for the size
3. Strong sense of community
4. The people are generally average - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Traffic during rush hour is rough
2. Road conditions need improvement
3. The housing market situation is affordable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Springfield: Great for families. solid vibes, walkable.
- Westside: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Chicago, everything felt solid. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are pricey. Gas is manageable. You can live comfortably on $70K-$140K here.

**Final verdict:**
It's not for everyone but it works for us.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
