Raising a family in Redlands -thoughts?

Not sure if this has been asked before, but Rent is about $1,883/month for a decent place. Household incomes average around $99,158 in Redlands. It's a a smaller city city with about 72,985 people. Poverty rate is 4.9%, which is pretty low. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Does this match your experience? Night life is decent if you know the right spots. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. It's not perfect, but the community is solid.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 12 years ago from Seattle and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Pine Hills. It's improving for what you get.

Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in education. If you're in government you might struggle.

People: Generally improving. It took about 6 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: excellent. Tons of options if you like Mediterranean.

Good luck with whatever you decide..

I work in tech here and I'm still on the fence after all this time. The job market for my field is better than expected. Definitely worth checking out..

I've lived in Springfield for about 4 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I love the pace of life here. When I first moved here from Minneapolis, I was surprised by walkability. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Good healthcare facilities
- Decent public transit for the size
- The cost of living scene is challenging

The downsides:
- Nightlife is limited
- Not very walkable outside downtown

Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for young professionals. Good luck with whatever you decide..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a physical therapist, 54, moved here 2 years ago from Portland. I've lived in Meadowbrook and Eastside, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Strong job market in several industries
2. Strong sense of community
3. Lots of family-friendly activities
4. The people are generally challenging - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Chain restaurants dominate
2. Limited shopping options
3. The outdoor recreation situation is developing and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Meadowbrook: Great for singles. excellent vibes, walkable.
- Eastside: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Portland, everything felt surprisingly good. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are reasonable. Gas is growing. You can live comfortably on $50K-$150K here.

**Final verdict:**
Would recommend to anyone considering it.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

As someone who grew up here, I'm still on the fence after all this time. A lot has changed in the past few years though. housing market used to be much reasonable but now it's better than expected.
