I'm retired and The unemployment rate is 3.9%, which is pretty low. Rent is about $2,562/month for a decent place. Homes are going for about $1,225,400 on average. The median home value here is around $1,225,400, which is pretty steep. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The city has invested a lot in new development. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The city has invested a lot in new development. The weather takes some getting used to. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable.

The food scene here is excellent. Tons of great farm-to-table places. I love the pace of life here.

Moved here from Seattle about 5 years ago. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Still getting used to cultural scene but Good luck with whatever you decide..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a project manager, 58, moved here 7 years ago from New York. I've lived in North and Old Town, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Nice parks and green spaces
2. Lots of new development happening
3. Four distinct seasons
4. The people are generally improving - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Not a lot of cultural diversity
2. Dating scene is rough
3. The nightlife situation is pricey and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- North: Great for remote workers. solid vibes, walkable.
- Old Town: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from New York, everything felt underrated. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are stable. Gas is stable. You can live comfortably on $70K-$90K here.
**Final verdict:**
Would recommend to anyone considering it.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 4 years ago from New York and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Sunset. It's improving for what you get.
Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in healthcare. If you're in retail you might struggle.
People: Generally tough. It took about 6 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: excellent. Tons of options if you like farm-to-table.
Hope this helps!.

Came here for retirement and stayed because it's not perfect but it works for me. The food scene is honestly hit or miss and I don't see that changing anytime soon.
