Housing in Redwood City compared to Austin

Hi all, Homes are going for about $1,838,800 on average. You can expect to pay around $2,959 for rent here. Property taxes are high but you get good services. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Worth the trade-offs? The suburbs are where most families end up. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level.

We moved here with our family and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Schools in Sunset area are pretty good. Kids love it here.

Bought a house here in 2018 and I love the pace of life here. Property values have gone down slightly since then.

Weather-wise, the summers are tough and winters are wild. You get used to it after the first year.

I've lived in Eastside for about 2 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I have mixed feelings honestly. When I first moved here from Houston, I was surprised by walkability. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Affordable housing options
- Diverse dining options
- The healthcare scene is challenging

The downsides:
- Winters are long and cold
- Chain restaurants dominate

Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for remote workers. Happy to answer more specific questions..

Bought a house here in 2017 and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Property values have gone down slightly since then.
