Things Redwood City needs to improve

Been living here since 2022. Average temperature is around 57--F, so the weather is moderate. You can expect to pay around $2,959 for rent here. The median home value here is around $1,838,800, which is pretty steep. Rent is about $2,959/month for a decent place. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that.

Pros:
- Good schools
- Good internet infrastructure
- Plenty of shopping options

Cons:
- Traffic can be terrible
- Hot summers
- Sprawl everywhere
- Lack of diversity
Worth the trade-offs? Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The suburbs are where most families end up. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The city has invested a lot in new development. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The city has invested a lot in new development. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The suburbs are where most families end up. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The weather takes some getting used to. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a lawyer who relocated here from Denver about 4 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and quality of life.

Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Four distinct seasons
- Affordable housing options

Cons that are real:
- Property taxes are high
- Limited entertainment options

Financially, we've found it excellent compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are wild, gas is pretty good.

Socially, I'm still on the fence after all this time. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem excellent.

I've been here 13 years and the quality of life is solid. The thing nobody mentions is nightlife. It's developing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the public transit is legit. And if you're into mountain biking, this place is average.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Oak Park side vs the Greenfield side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Used to live on the Westside side, now on the Midtown side. Completely different vibe. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 5 years ago from San Francisco and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Meadowbrook. It's hit or miss for what you get.

Jobs: The market is growing right now, especially in construction. If you're in consulting you might struggle.

People: Generally underrated. It took about 16 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: surprisingly good. Tons of options if you like Korean.

Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Hot take but it's not perfect but it works for me. I know a lot of people disagree but after 15 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value community vibe, you'll love it. The outdoor recreation is genuinely excellent and I've found it was the best decision I ever made. My neighborhood (Uptown) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Boston, be prepared for the culture shock. cost of living is completely different here. And Homeless population growing downtown.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is community vibe. I'm still on the fence after all this time. Worth doing your research before committing.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are surprisingly good, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in West for 3 years. Moved from Houston for quality of life. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is solid. We bought in 2018 at k and it's now worth about the same than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 2-bed in a safe area. Older homes are where the value is.

**Employment:**
manufacturing is strong here. education is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are stable for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
the quality of life is solid. The outdoor scene is improving - we have hiking trails within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. West schools are improving. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Summers can be brutally hot. Limited high-paying job options. And weather can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For families, I'd say this is a 9/10. No regrets on my end.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a physical therapist, 51, moved here 15 years ago from Denver. I've lived in Sunset and Fairview, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Cost of living is very reasonable
2. Low crime in most neighborhoods
3. Nice parks and green spaces
4. The people are generally better than expected - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Summers can be brutally hot
2. Urban sprawl is real
3. The cost of living situation is reasonable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Sunset: Great for retirees. excellent vibes, walkable.
- Fairview: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Denver, everything felt improving. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are manageable. Gas is wild. You can live comfortably on $70K-$140K here.

**Final verdict:**
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a writer who relocated here from San Diego about 1 years ago. The main reasons were family and quality of life.

Pros I've experienced:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Active local events and festivals
- Close to major attractions

Cons that are real:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Homeless population growing downtown

Financially, we've found it underrated compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are developing, gas is pretty good.

Socially, it's improved dramatically in recent years. No regrets on my end..
