Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value outdoor recreation, you'll love it. The weather is genuinely surprisingly good and I've found I genuinely enjoy living here. My neighborhood (Eastside) is affordable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from San Diego, be prepared for the culture shock. housing market is completely different here. And Homeless population growing downtown.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem solid.

I've been here 3 years and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The thing nobody mentions is housing market. It's wild and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the food scene is legit. And if you're into golfing, this place is decent.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Midtown side vs the Meadowbrook side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Would recommend to anyone considering it..

The food scene here is tough. Tons of great seafood places. I love the pace of life here.

If you value job market, you'll love it. The job market is genuinely excellent and I've found it's exactly what I was looking for. My neighborhood (Uptown) is developing and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from San Diego, be prepared for the culture shock. public transit is completely different here. And Limited high-paying job options.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a social worker who relocated here from San Francisco about 3 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and school.

Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Lots of new development happening
- Close to major attractions

Cons that are real:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Bugs and humidity in summer

Financially, we've found it excellent compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are competitive, gas is underrated.

Socially, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. No regrets on my end..
