Hey, I'm single, late 30s, and It's a a small town city with about 4,808 people. Average temperature is around 52--F, so expect cold winters. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Am I overthinking this? People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a physical therapist who relocated here from San Francisco about 12 years ago. The main reasons were work and family.
Pros I've experienced:
- Good healthcare facilities
- Decent public transit for the size
- Lots of family-friendly activities
Cons that are real:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Bugs and humidity in summer
Financially, we've found it better than expected compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are reasonable, gas is better than expected.
Socially, I genuinely enjoy living here. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Hot take but the quality of life is solid. I know a lot of people disagree but after 10 years here, that's my honest assessment.

As someone who grew up here, the quality of life is solid. A lot has changed in the past few years though. healthcare used to be much competitive but now it's challenging.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem solid.
I've been here 12 years and it's been a really good experience overall. The thing nobody mentions is housing market. It's manageable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the community vibe is legit. And if you're into kayaking, this place is hit or miss.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The The Heights side vs the Midtown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
