I'd say it's better for families than young singles. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Property taxes are high but you get good services. What would you do? I've lived in Riverside for about 8 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. When I first moved here from LA, I was surprised by cultural scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Strong sense of community
- The cost of living scene is solid
The downsides:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Far from beaches/mountains
Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for couples. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a accountant who relocated here from Boston about 12 years ago. The main reasons were quality of life and a job opportunity.
Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Good healthcare facilities
- Lots of new development happening
Cons that are real:
- Limited public transit options
- Can feel isolated
Financially, we've found it improving compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are growing, gas is pretty good.
Socially, it's exactly what I was looking for. Definitely worth checking out..
