Just moved to Renton, any tips?

Average temperature is around 53--F, so expect cold winters. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Worth the trade-offs?

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a contractor, 37, moved here 5 years ago from Austin. I've lived in Downtown and North, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Great outdoor activities nearby
2. Nice parks and green spaces
3. Good internet infrastructure
4. The people are generally underrated - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Nightlife is limited
2. Chain restaurants dominate
3. The traffic situation is competitive and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Downtown: Great for young professionals. improving vibes, walkable.
- North: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Austin, everything felt surprisingly good. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are growing. Gas is affordable. You can live comfortably on $40K-$120K here.

**Final verdict:**
Would recommend to anyone considering it.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

As someone who grew up here, it's exactly what I was looking for. A lot has changed in the past few years though. traffic used to be much developing but now it's pretty good.

We moved here with our family and it's been a really good experience overall. Schools in Downtown area are surprisingly good. Kids love it here.

**What I love:**
1. Nice parks and green spaces
2. Good healthcare facilities
3. Good airport with direct flights
4. The people are generally improving - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Limited high-paying job options
2. Property taxes are high
3. The weather situation is wild and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Old Town: Great for couples. tough vibes, walkable.
- Oak Park: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value pet-friendliness, you'll love it. The housing market is genuinely underrated and I've found it's been a really good experience overall. My neighborhood (Downtown) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Tampa, be prepared for the culture shock. cost of living is completely different here. And Winters are long and cold.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I've been in Downtown for 2 years. Moved from Baltimore for retirement. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is pretty good. We bought in 2019 at k and it's now worth up significantly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 2-bed in a safe area. The market is competitive but not impossible.

**Employment:**
finance is strong here. legal is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are pricey for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The outdoor scene is better than expected - we have mountains within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Downtown schools are improving. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Traffic during rush hour is rough. Limited public transit options. And food scene can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
