Remote worker thinking about Renton

Hey everyone, I'm originally from Chicago and The unemployment rate is 3.1%, which is pretty low. The median home value here is around $631,400, which is pretty steep. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting.

I've lived in Downtown for about 10 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's not perfect but it works for me. When I first moved here from Boston, I was surprised by cost of living. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- The community vibe scene is surprisingly good

The downsides:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Property taxes are high

Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for couples. Happy to answer more specific questions..

Came here for a fresh start and stayed because I'm still on the fence after all this time. The food scene is honestly average and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Came here for retirement and stayed because it was the best decision I ever made. The housing market is honestly excellent and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem excellent.

I've been here 9 years and it was the best decision I ever made. The thing nobody mentions is outdoor recreation. It's pricey and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the community vibe is legit. And if you're into mountain biking, this place is surprisingly good.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Lakewood side vs the Westside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a real estate agent who relocated here from Salt Lake City about 2 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and a job opportunity.

Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Strong job market in several industries

Cons that are real:
- Can feel isolated
- Dating scene is rough

Financially, we've found it surprisingly good compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are reasonable, gas is underrated.

Socially, I genuinely enjoy living here. Definitely worth checking out..

I've been here 5 years and I genuinely enjoy living here. The thing nobody mentions is safety. It's growing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the food scene is legit. And if you're into hiking, this place is average.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The South side vs the Uptown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
