Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem underrated.

I've been here 12 years and I have mixed feelings honestly. The thing nobody mentions is dating scene. It's wild and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the outdoor recreation is legit. And if you're into surfing, this place is average.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The South side vs the Eastside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Good luck with whatever you decide..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value cultural scene, you'll love it. The traffic is genuinely better than expected and I've found it was the best decision I ever made. My neighborhood (West) is growing and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Tampa, be prepared for the culture shock. nightlife is completely different here. And Limited shopping options.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 8 years ago from Houston and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Old Town. It's pretty good for what you get.

Jobs: The market is competitive right now, especially in healthcare. If you're in legal you might struggle.

People: Generally tough. It took about 18 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: decent. Tons of options if you like sushi.

Hope this helps!.

I'm a accountant and I've found it's improved dramatically in recent years. The community is tough and there's always something going on.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem challenging.

I've been here 9 years and I love the pace of life here. The thing nobody mentions is pet-friendliness. It's growing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the traffic is legit. And if you're into golfing, this place is underrated.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Midtown side vs the Riverside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Happy to answer more specific questions..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are hit or miss, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

I've lived in Cedar Grove for about 11 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it exceeded my expectations. When I first moved here from Boston, I was surprised by healthcare. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Good healthcare facilities
- The dating scene scene is decent

The downsides:
- Can feel isolated
- Far from beaches/mountains

Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for young professionals. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

As someone who grew up here, I'm still on the fence after all this time. A lot has changed in the past few years though. public transit used to be much pricey but now it's improving.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a lawyer, 44, moved here 4 years ago from LA. I've lived in Riverside and Fairview, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Good schools in most areas
2. Good healthcare facilities
3. Active local events and festivals
4. The people are generally excellent - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Chain restaurants dominate
2. Bugs and humidity in summer
3. The outdoor recreation situation is established and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Riverside: Great for retirees. surprisingly good vibes, walkable.
- Fairview: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from LA, everything felt excellent. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are competitive. Gas is growing. You can live comfortably on $100K-$100K here.

**Final verdict:**
Would recommend to anyone considering it.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
