Quick question about Reston

Longtime lurker here, I've been here for 11 years and Rent is about $2,170/month for a decent place. Homes are going for about $616,000 on average. Crime rate is something to consider -Reston sits at 194.2 per 100K. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The suburbs are where most families end up. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The city has invested a lot in new development.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value community vibe, you'll love it. The dating scene is genuinely underrated and I've found it's exactly what I was looking for. My neighborhood (Oak Park) is established and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from New York, be prepared for the culture shock. cost of living is completely different here. And Chain restaurants dominate.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
