Been meaning to ask this. Military spouse here. Rent is about $1,641/month for a decent place. The weather takes some getting used to. It's not perfect, but the community is solid.

I've lived in West for about 5 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. When I first moved here from Pittsburgh, I was surprised by healthcare. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Active local events and festivals
- Diverse dining options
- The community vibe scene is decent
The downsides:
- Dating scene is rough
- Far from beaches/mountains
Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for retirees. Hope this helps!.

Weather-wise, the summers are underrated and winters are affordable. You get used to it after the first year.

I'm a pharmacist and I've found I genuinely enjoy living here. The community is average and there's always something going on.

Bought a house here in 2019 and I have mixed feelings honestly. Property values have gone up significantly since then.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value outdoor recreation, you'll love it. The nightlife is genuinely tough and I've found I'm still on the fence after all this time. My neighborhood (Springfield) is affordable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Minneapolis, be prepared for the culture shock. pet-friendliness is completely different here. And Winters are long and cold.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Public transit is decent here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I love the pace of life here.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is school system. it was the best decision I ever made. Worth doing your research before committing.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, I genuinely enjoy living here. Good luck with whatever you decide..
