Unpopular opinion about Rib Mountain

I've been here for 6 years and Average temperature is around 44--F, so bundle up in winter. The median home value here is around $237,700, which is actually reasonable. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Is this normal for Rib Mountain? Thanks in advance! The suburbs are where most families end up.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a software engineer, 58, moved here 6 years ago from Baltimore. I've lived in East and Lakewood, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Great outdoor activities nearby
2. Strong job market in several industries
3. Affordable housing options
4. The people are generally improving - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Chain restaurants dominate
2. Homeless population growing downtown
3. The food scene situation is manageable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- East: Great for couples. surprisingly good vibes, walkable.
- Lakewood: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Baltimore, everything felt decent. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are competitive. Gas is stable. You can live comfortably on $80K-$110K here.

**Final verdict:**
Good luck with whatever you decide.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a sales manager who relocated here from Miami about 11 years ago. The main reasons were my partner's job and retirement.

Pros I've experienced:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Decent public transit for the size
- Lots of family-friendly activities

Cons that are real:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Bugs and humidity in summer

Financially, we've found it surprisingly good compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are competitive, gas is excellent.

Socially, I love the pace of life here. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it was the best decision I ever made. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Bought a house here in 2023 and I'm still on the fence after all this time. Property values have gone up a bit since then.
