Affordable areas near Richlands?

Been meaning to ask this. It's a a small town city with about 5,188 people. Poverty rate is 19.4%, which is higher than I expected. The unemployment rate is 3.1%, which is pretty low. The median home value here is around $107,300, which is actually reasonable. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Appreciate any input. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The city has invested a lot in new development. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a teacher who relocated here from Austin about 8 years ago. The main reasons were a fresh start and a job opportunity.

Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Good healthcare facilities
- Affordable housing options

Cons that are real:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Bugs and humidity in summer

Financially, we've found it average compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are stable, gas is pretty good.

Socially, I'm still on the fence after all this time. Feel free to reach out with questions..

Came here for work and stayed because the quality of life is solid. The nightlife is honestly tough and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem challenging.

I've been here 11 years and it exceeded my expectations. The thing nobody mentions is cost of living. It's manageable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the walkability is legit. And if you're into mountain biking, this place is excellent.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Maple Ridge side vs the Eastside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

No regrets on my end..
