First post here. Military spouse here. Household incomes average around $90,038 in Richmond. Crime rate is something to consider -Richmond sits at 931.6 per 100K. It's a a mid-size city city with about 115K people. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Am I overthinking this? It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The suburbs are where most families end up. I'd say it's better for families than young singles.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are tough, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

I've lived in Meadowbrook for about 6 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. When I first moved here from Pittsburgh, I was surprised by food scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Strong job market in several industries
- Diverse dining options
- The weather scene is tough
The downsides:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Limited entertainment options
Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for singles. Definitely worth checking out..

I work in manufacturing here and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The job market for my field is hit or miss. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Hot take but I love the pace of life here. I know a lot of people disagree but after 10 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a contractor who relocated here from Baltimore about 14 years ago. The main reasons were family and my partner's job.
Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Affordable housing options
- Strong sense of community
Cons that are real:
- Limited entertainment options
- Bugs and humidity in summer
Financially, we've found it underrated compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are pricey, gas is decent.
Socially, it exceeded my expectations. Definitely worth checking out..
