I work in engineering and Homes are going for about $650,100 on average. Poverty rate is 9.5%, which is pretty low. Household incomes average around $90,038 in Richmond. Average temperature is around 56--F, so the weather is moderate. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The suburbs are where most families end up. The food scene here is surprisingly good.

Weather-wise, the summers are tough and winters are established. You get used to it after the first year.

I've lived in Highland for about 3 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's exactly what I was looking for. When I first moved here from Phoenix, I was surprised by community vibe. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Nice parks and green spaces
- The nightlife scene is decent
The downsides:
- Can feel isolated
- Homeless population growing downtown
Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for families. Happy to answer more specific questions..

As someone who grew up here, it was the best decision I ever made. A lot has changed in the past few years though. school system used to be much affordable but now it's tough.
