Couple moving to Richmond Heights from out of state
Hi all, It's a a small town city with about 10,677 people. The median home value here is around $176,100, which is actually reasonable. Rent is about $933/month for a decent place. Poverty rate is 4.4%, which is pretty low. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Let me know your thoughts. Background: I'm a lawyer, 36, moved here 4 years ago from Tampa. I've lived in Uptown and Lakewood, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Good healthcare facilities
2. Active local events and festivals
3. Affordable housing options
4. The people are generally surprisingly good - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Not a lot of cultural diversity
2. Dating scene is rough
3. The dating scene situation is pricey and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Uptown: Great for couples. challenging vibes, walkable.
- Lakewood: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Tampa, everything felt challenging. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are stable. Gas is affordable. You can live comfortably on $40K-$120K here.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem challenging.
I've been here 11 years and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The thing nobody mentions is nightlife. It's competitive and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the dating scene is legit. And if you're into camping, this place is decent.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Cedar Grove side vs the South side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

I've lived in Downtown for about 14 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's improved dramatically in recent years. When I first moved here from Denver, I was surprised by outdoor recreation. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Decent public transit for the size
- The public transit scene is hit or miss
The downsides:
- Winters are long and cold
- Urban sprawl is real
