Couple moving to Richmond from out of state

Curious what people think. The median home value here is around $107,600, which is actually reasonable. Homes are going for about $107,600 on average. I'd say it's better for families than young singles.

Came here for work and stayed because I love the pace of life here. The healthcare is honestly excellent and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem decent.

I've been here 9 years and I'm still on the fence after all this time. The thing nobody mentions is pet-friendliness. It's developing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the school system is legit. And if you're into kayaking, this place is pretty good.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The The Heights side vs the Greenfield side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Definitely worth checking out..

As someone who grew up here, it's improved dramatically in recent years. A lot has changed in the past few years though. weather used to be much reasonable but now it's solid.

My experience has been mostly positive. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The only thing I'd watch out for is walkability. Other than that, Happy to answer more specific questions..

Weather-wise, the summers are better than expected and winters are stable. You get used to it after the first year.

I've been living here for 15 years and I'd say it's not perfect but it works for me. The community vibe is challenging compared to other places I've lived. Overall Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is housing market. it was the best decision I ever made. Worth doing your research before committing.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 15 years ago from Atlanta and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in North. It's average for what you get.

Jobs: The market is reasonable right now, especially in education. If you're in education you might struggle.

People: Generally decent. It took about 16 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: decent. Tons of options if you like Asian.

Hope this helps!.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Downtown for 12 years. Moved from Chicago for school. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is surprisingly good. We bought in 2024 at k and it's now worth up significantly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 2-bed in a safe area. The market is competitive but not impossible.

**Employment:**
finance is strong here. legal is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are affordable for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
I genuinely enjoy living here. The outdoor scene is improving - we have biking trails within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Downtown schools are pretty good. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Traffic during rush hour is rough. Can feel isolated. And walkability can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For young professionals, I'd say this is a 6/10. Give it a chance - it might surprise you.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.
