Quick question about Richmond

Military spouse here. Poverty rate is 17.9%, which is higher than I expected. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Am I wrong here? Looking forward to hearing from you all. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem excellent.

I've been here 14 years and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The thing nobody mentions is job market. It's developing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the nightlife is legit. And if you're into golfing, this place is hit or miss.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Meadowbrook side vs the Downtown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it's not perfect but it works for me. Happy to answer more specific questions..

Came here for retirement and stayed because it's exactly what I was looking for. The outdoor recreation is honestly better than expected and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is school system. it's improved dramatically in recent years. Worth doing your research before committing.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Maple Ridge for 4 years. Moved from Miami for my partner's job. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is pretty good. We bought in 2023 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 4-bed in a safe area. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable.

**Employment:**
consulting is strong here. marketing is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are reasonable for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
I love the pace of life here. The outdoor scene is hit or miss - we have hiking trails within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Maple Ridge schools are average. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Winters are long and cold. Dating scene is rough. And nightlife can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For singles, I'd say this is a 9/10. Hope this helps!. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.
