Anyone else feel this way? The unemployment rate is 4.5%, which is about average. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Property taxes are high but you get good services. I've lived in The Heights for about 8 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it exceeded my expectations. When I first moved here from Pittsburgh, I was surprised by safety. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Good internet infrastructure
- The safety scene is decent
The downsides:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Dating scene is rough
Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for couples. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

I've been in The Heights for 9 years. Moved from Baltimore for my partner's job. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is surprisingly good. We bought in 2024 at k and it's now worth up significantly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 4-bed in a safe area. Lots of new construction which should help.
**Employment:**
government is strong here. manufacturing is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are reasonable for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
I love the pace of life here. The outdoor scene is underrated - we have desert landscapes within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. The Heights schools are better than expected. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Homeless population growing downtown. Limited entertainment options. And dating scene can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem better than expected.
I've been here 9 years and it's not perfect but it works for me. The thing nobody mentions is outdoor recreation. It's developing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the public transit is legit. And if you're into photography, this place is challenging.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Springfield side vs the East side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Definitely worth checking out..
